I first heard about Zara’s new fragrance releases and decided to visit a store to test several of them in person.
As usual, I wasn’t looking for one specific fragrance. Several perfumes from the same collection were displayed together, so I tried them one by one. Surprisingly, Terra Profonda Black Fig & Basil was the one I liked most.
The reason was simple.
It smelled the most natural to me.
I have always enjoyed fragrances that remind me of nature, especially green and earthy scents. I also like fig fragrances, so the name immediately caught my attention.
However, once I sprayed it on my skin, it smelled different from what I expected. Instead of sweet, juicy fig, I got more of an impression of fig leaves and surrounding greenery, almost like smelling the plant up close.
And surprisingly, that difference was exactly what made me want to keep wearing it.

Black Fig & Basil naturally suggests something sweet, fruity, and herbal. Those qualities are present, but the first thing I noticed was not basil itself. It was a slightly bitter green quality that reminded me more of fresh fig leaves.
There is also a subtle salty, almost mineral-like quality in the background. To me, it smells less like strong ocean salt and more like the soft salty scent of a lightly scented bath salt.
This keeps the fragrance from feeling like a straightforward green or herbal scent.
There is a slight synthetic smoothness underneath the natural texture, but overall, it still comes across as surprisingly natural.
After testing several fragrances from the same collection, I think this balance is one of the main reasons Terra Profonda stood out to me.
First Impression: Fig Leaves Rather Than Fig Fruit

Instead of sweetness, the green character comes through first, accompanied by slight bitterness and a fresh, leafy quality.
But it is not a bitter fragrance.
It feels more like the clean, natural smell of a plant when you bring a leaf close and smell it directly.
What I noticed most was not whether it felt warm or cool, but the sense of fresh air surrounding the greenery.
Green leaves.
Slightly damp plants.
Morning dew.
Clean, fresh air.
Those were the images that naturally came to mind.

Both fragrances remind me of nature, but they take very different directions. Hwyl feels much darker and deeper, with dense forest, damp wood, and moss, while Terra Profonda feels brighter, fresher, and more relaxed.
20 Minutes Later: Soft Blonde Woods
After around 20 minutes, the fragrance changes noticeably.
The bitter green quality settles down and the freshness becomes softer. Blonde woods begin to take over.
The woody character is not hard, dry, or sharp. It feels much softer and creamier.
The first texture that came to my mind was cashmere.
There is still a sense of woodiness, but it feels smooth and soft, almost like comfortable fabric resting against the skin.
Personally, I prefer the green and fresh opening, but the dry down is also very comforting.
I particularly like that the woody character takes a different direction from the familiar creamy sandalwood fragrances that are so common.
The blonde woods add softness while allowing the fragrance to retain some personality.

Terra Profonda is much lighter and more natural-feeling as an everyday woody fragrance, while Santal Majuscule combines rose, sandalwood, and cocoa to create a warmer, denser scent.
My Experience Wearing Terra Profonda
I have not been wearing Terra Profonda for a very long time yet, but my wife gave me an interesting reaction.
She smelled the fragrance and said, “It smells really comforting.”
She also mentioned that it had a slightly candle-like quality.
At first, I was surprised by that description, but after smelling it again, I understood what she meant. The soft blonde woods in the dry down have a slightly waxy quality, almost like the smooth surface of a candle.
What made her reaction more interesting was that she did not smell it directly from my skin or clothes.
I had sprayed Terra Profonda in our dressing room, and she noticed the soft scent that remained in the room afterward.

Terra Profonda does not have strong projection. I would rate it around 2/5.
Even immediately after spraying, it stays relatively close to the skin rather than creating a strong scent trail.
However, weak projection does not mean weak longevity.
On my skin, the fragrance moves from the green opening into the softer dry down relatively quickly during the first hour, but a subtle scent remains for quite a while afterward.
I could smell it for around 5 hours on my skin and approximately 8 hours on clothing.
Even toward the end, it did not disappear completely unless I brought my nose very close to the skin. There was still a soft trace that I could occasionally notice as I moved.
Personally, I think this level of projection suits the character of Terra Profonda. If it projected strongly from the beginning, I feel it might take away from the calm, natural atmosphere that makes it enjoyable.
Who Is It For?
Terra Profonda does not feel restricted to a particular gender or age group.
The blonde woods might suggest something traditionally masculine, but the actual fragrance is much softer. The green fig, basil, and subtle salty mineral quality keep it from leaning strongly in either direction.
For me, it feels genuinely unisex.
It can also work across a wide range of ages. Rather than being tied to a specific age, it depends more on personal taste and style.
If you normally prefer strong, traditionally masculine fragrances, Terra Profonda may feel too soft.
But if you enjoy natural, clean, understated scents, it is very easy to wear regardless of gender.
In terms of style, I imagine it on someone who looks clean and casual rather than overly dressed.
A crisp shirt.
Light casual clothing.
A natural, effortless style.
Someone who is not trying too hard, but still looks well put together.
Season & Situation
One of Terra Profonda’s biggest strengths is how easy it is to wear.
To work.
To a cafe.
For a casual outing.
Or simply while relaxing at home.
It easily blends into everyday life rather than feeling like a fragrance reserved for specific occasions.
I don’t think it is limited to one particular season either. Other than extremely hot summer days or very cold winter weather, I think it could work throughout most of the year.
If I had to choose one season, though, I would pick spring, especially a slightly cool spring day.
It also feels more suited to daytime than nighttime.
A sunny day.
Clean, fresh air.
One of those days when the weather is so nice that you simply feel good for no particular reason.
That is when Terra Profonda feels most natural to me.
I also think it is easy to wear around young children and during family time because it does not strongly dominate the surrounding space.
However, if you are looking for a signature scent with a strong personality and noticeable presence, it may feel too understated.
What Does Terra Profonda Smell Like?
If I had to describe Terra Profonda as a single scene, I would imagine a quiet garden overlooking the ocean in the morning.
I open the back door and step outside.
There is still a little morning dew on the plants, while sunlight is already filling the garden.
The weather is beautiful, but the morning air is still slightly cool.
I can see the ocean in the distance, with a faint trace of salt carried in by the breeze.
There is a single boat floating out on the water.
I can hear birds nearby as sunlight falls across the garden.
It is one of those mornings when you do not need to do anything special to enjoy yourself.
You simply sit down, wake up slowly, and take in everything around you.
And then a thought naturally comes to mind:
“Ah, it’s going to be a good day today.”
That is what Terra Profonda smells like to me.
It is not glamorous or intense.
It is simply quiet, natural, and comforting.
What Kind of Person Would Wear It?
It is difficult to associate Terra Profonda with just one type of person because the image can change depending on who is wearing it.
But if I had to imagine someone, I would picture a person who enjoys nature and knows how to slow down and appreciate the moment.
Someone who enjoys trees and greenery.
Someone who can stop on a beautiful day and look up at the sky.
Someone who can find small moments of enjoyment in an ordinary day, even when nothing special is happening.
Terra Profonda does not feel designed to make a strong statement.
Instead, it follows the natural personality and atmosphere of the person wearing it.
Design & Presentation
The Terra Profonda bottle looks surprisingly premium.
It uses the same bottle shape as the Zara Energetically New York Elixir I reviewed previously, but this collection uses a black finish.
The dark color initially made me expect something darker and heavier than the actual fragrance.
In reality, the scent is much softer.
The cap is magnetic, so it clicks neatly into place when closed.
The packaging is also interesting. The center of the box features a texture that looks like leather. It is actually paper, not real leather, but it creates a convincing visual impression.
Combined with the black bottle, it gives the fragrance a more luxurious appearance.
I also think the design works well with the scent itself. The bottle suggests something darker and more intense, while the fragrance is natural, calm, and soft.
I like that contrast.
Value for Money
Terra Profonda is priced at AUD $79.95 for 100ml.
At this price, I think it offers very good value.
If I had smelled it without knowing the price, I would have been comfortable paying around this amount for it.
It does not have a particularly cheap-smelling quality, and I rarely get an overly chemical impression from it.
Of course, it does not smell completely natural or exactly like the raw ingredients themselves. However, the overall impression feels much more natural than synthetic.
The 100ml size is another advantage. Because the price is relatively affordable, it is easy to use as an everyday fragrance without worrying too much about how much you spray.
If you had asked me to smell Terra Profonda first and then told me it was AUD $79.95 for 100ml, I would be happy to buy it at that price.
Knowing the price actually makes me appreciate it even more.

Zara Terra Profonda Black Fig & Basil was a fragrance I ended up enjoying much more than I expected when I first went to test Zara’s new releases.
I tried several fragrances from the same collection, but Terra Profonda was the one that felt the most natural and comfortable to me.
What I loved most was the opening.
Instead of sweet fig fruit, it starts with a green, slightly bitter freshness that reminds me more of fig leaves. It has the earthy and green character that I naturally enjoy.
After around 20 minutes, the fragrance becomes softer, with blonde woods creating a creamy, comfortable texture that reminds me of cashmere.
Personally, I prefer the opening, but the dry down is still very pleasant.
